NORTH IRISH HORSE COMMEMORATION IN CARRICKFERGUS  OF THE BATTLE OF THE HITLER LINE


On Saturday the North Irish Horse commemorated the Battle of the Hitler Line in May 1944, with a parade in Carrickfergus.

The Hitler Line was a German line of defence in Italy in the Second World War.  Soldiers of the North Irish Horse Regiment, supported the 1st Canadian Infantry in the battle and many members of what is now ‘B’ (North Irish Horse) Squadron of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry died in action during the battle. The Squadron lost many lives and tanks reducing its strength by half.

The North Irish Horse Regiment wear a maple leaf on their uniforms in memory of this battle.
