LORD LIEUTENANT OF CO ANTRIM MR DAVID MCCORKELL KStJ AND HONARY COLONEL OPENS REFURBISHED BALLYMONEY CADET CENTRE.

30 October 2023

Ballymoney Detachment had an extra special visit this week when their honorary colonel, Mr David McCorkell KStJ came along to the detachment to officially ‘re-open’ the recently refurbished accommodation. The Army Cadet Centre in Ballymoney was not fit for purpose and badly needed an overhaul.  The estates team at the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association Northern Ireland got to work and what a job they did.

The full refurbishment included replacing all of the interior space creating a warm and inviting space for the detachment to thrive.  The update included; new male and female changing rooms, 2 classrooms as well as a large drill hall and an office and storage facilities for the detachment commander and his staff to use.

Colonel McCorkell commented on the work carried out and how well it all looks making it an enjoyable place for the young cadets to enjoy being army cadets.

The detachment staff are very grateful to the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (Estates) for the donation of surplus furniture which was a great help to the cadets and staff.

The detachment in Ballymoney continues to thrive in their new centre and would like to invite any young people aged 12+  in and around the Ballymoney area, to come along any Wednesday evening they will be made very welcome
